Introduction The majority of United States citizens have known about the main reason for the Civil War; however, what truly led up to a band of brothers firing upon one another has not been explained to most United States citizens. Battle of Fort Sumter is considered the first battle that initiated the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy. The battle only lasted two days, but it took four months after the secession of Confederate states for someone to pull the first cannon lanyard and years for the United States to resolve. The union Soldiers at Fort Sumter were stranded on an island with walls, surrounded by Confederate artillery batteries. This was a battle that demonstrated the pride and dedication of the patriots on both†¦show more content†¦After Foster and Crawford shot the two cannons for signal, they crossed over to Fort Sumter while Hall led the barge carrying supplies, women, and children from the shores of Fort Johnson to Fort Sumter. If caught, this co uld have set of the war because Governor Pickens of South Carolina considered any reinforcement or transfer of federal troops as an act of war.7 It wasn’t until dawn of 27 December that Charleston noticed that Fort Moultrie was abandoned and Fort Sumter was now the Union garrison’s new home. South Carolina demanded that the union reposition back to Fort Sumter, but both Anderson and Washing declined knowing that Sumter was the strongest Fort in the harbor in case of an attack from the Confederate States. With short supplies, the garrison continued to fortify Sumter and hope that the union would either reinforce them or have them withdraw from Sumter per the Confederates request. The war was nearing, but neither side wanted to be the first to fire. South Carolina knew they would not be able to defeat Fort Sumter with their current artillery, so they started making improvements of their own. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. The influence that an adolescent’s peers, parents, and community have on them can be conflicting and therefore cause stress. Trying to meet the expectations of others during a time where one is going through so many forms of physical, psychological, and cognitive development can be trying for a middle school aged student. They are expected to focus on their education and the expectation of other outside influences while their bodies are growing and developing into an adult body. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community. â€Å"Middle schools provide 10 to 15-year-olds with developmentally appropriate educational experiences that emphasize the education and overall well-being of the learners,† to address their developmental needs as adolescents (Manning, Bucher, p. 9).
